Man killed as lorry hits ditch in Co Longford

A lorry driver was killed today after the truck he was driving veered off road and struck a ditch in Co Longford.

A lorry driver was killed today after the truck he was driving veered off road and struck a ditch in Co Longford.

Gardaí said the crash took place at around 6am at Coolamber, Lisryan, just outside Granard. No other vehicle was involved.

The dead man was taken to St Joseph’s Hospital, Longford and an investigation has been launched by gardaí.

Four people - including three drivers and one passenger – have lost their lives on the roads so far this year.

Last year the death toll hit 399 – including 173 drivers, 91 passengers, 70 pedestrians and 50 motorcyclists.
