Cannabis plants worth almost €250,000 have been seized in Carlow town.

Gardaí made the discovery at a house at Old Burrin earlier today as part of an ongoing operation into the cultivation of herbal cannabis in the Carlow area.

Officers found around 300 cannabis plants at various stages of growth with an estimated street value of €240,000.

A technical examination of the scene is underway and inquiries are ongoing.

No arrests have been made.
