A large explosion was heard in central Baghdad today, hours before the planned signing of the country’s interim constitution.

A large explosion was heard in central Baghdad today, hours before the planned signing of the country’s interim constitution.

Witnesses said it was a roadside bomb and no one was injured.

The bomb went off around 9.40am in the al-Jihad district on the road leading to Baghdad’s airport, about seven miles southwest of the headquarters of the US-led occupation authority.

A second roadside bomb was reported on the road in the al-Adil district, witnesses said. It was unclear if there were any injuries.

Both roads are regularly used by coalition troops.
