The Newpark Hotel in Kilkenny has unveiled 10 newly refurbished, luxury Balcony Suites as part of a €2 million upgrade of the property.

The four-star establishment is owned by well-known hoteliers, the Flynn family — John, Allen and Pierce. The group also owns and runs The Imperial Hotel in Cork’s city centre, the Old Ground Hotel in Ennis and the Park Hotel, Dungarvan. All of these establishments have also received significant investment of late. The Newpark investment sees luxury upgrades across the property, with €250,000 being spent on the Balcony Suites upgrade alone.

These units feature specially sourced bespoke fabrics and furniture designed by interior architect and designer, Brian McDonald.

Features of the upmarket units include puffa bed spreads, four-poster beds with comfort driven headboards, upmarket breakfast chairs, a recliner chair and sofa, and luxurious armchairs. According to the owners it makes the suite space easy on the eye and inviting for guests to relax in luxurious surrounds. Each unit also comes with its own private balcony and features a Spa bathroom with 12-inch rain shower.

Materials used include aged brass, blackened steel and walnut along with a range of locally sourced fine leathers and fabrics. Antique mirrors throughout are framed in aged brass.

General manager of Newpark Hotel, Mark Dunne, feels the iconic property, which incorporates 50-years of tradition, will be complimented by this five-star experience.

He says guests will savour not just world class design, but also state-of-the-art in-room entertainment and invigorating power showers. Most importantly, he says, the suites offer a perfect night’s sleep. He concludes: “We need to meet and exceed the expectations of today’s traveller.”

The hotel’s 30 standard guestrooms have also received a major face-lift, leaving them at Deluxe room standard. All beds now feature King Koil Club Pocket luxury beds with non-allergenic pillows, a duck down duvet and 300 thread count linen. Bathrooms throughout feature Grohe rain head showers, 550-gram Lissaddell towelling and luxury bathrobes.

Each room carries a 43-inch, fully interactive, high definition, flat-screen TV along with in-room entertainment systems which can accommodate your own mobile devices.

The Newpark upgrade includes opening the Parisian influenced Terrace dining area last year. This is described as an ‘atmospheric and relaxed outdoor setting’ that comes with a state-of-the-art retractable roof and outdoor heating to allow year-round use.
