Lesbian 'Corrie' character to ditch partner at altar

Coronation Street's Sian Powers is to ditch girlfriend Sophie Webster at the altar.

The teen lesbian - played by Sacha Parkinson - flees the pair's nuptials when she finds out her lover had a fling with bisexual Amber Kaliari (Nikki Patel), the daughter of corner shop owner Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin).

In the scenes, which are set to be shown in an upcoming episode of the ITV1 soap, Sian will be chased after by Sophie - with both wearing matching wedding dresses - with the rest of the guests left looking on in bemusement.

Sacha - who is leaving 'Coronation Street' in 2012 - previously admitted she was "fuming" when she first read the lesbian love triangle storyline.

She recently told BANG Showbiz: "I was so jealous when I first read the storyline. I was absolutely fuming. I was like, 'How could Sophie do that to Sian?'."

Meanwhile, Brooke Vincent - who portrays Sophie in the soap - admitted the emotional plot is making her act "for the first time".

She said: "It's different to anything I've ever been used to and it's made me actually have to act for the first time.

"I think a lot of my own personality has come in to my character for the past eight years and now I'm actually having to really act differently. It's interesting though, and it keeps things fresh."
