Korean cinema is beginning to make its presence felt lately, with Kim Ji-woon’s horror A Tale of Two Sisters about to get the Hollywood treatment. Now comes the gangster thriller A Bittersweet Life (Tartan, €24.99) which delivers lots of bloodshed and does so in style.
Kim Sun-woo is an assassin who makes the mistake of not reporting that his boss’s girlfriend has been having an affair. Unfortunately, and almost fatally, his boss is far from amused.
Surviving the retribution, Kim goes looking for revenge and the bloodshed moves along at a snappy pace.
A cracking film.
