Denmark’s Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen received a shot of adrenaline after being attacked by a bee swarm, it was reported today.
Fogh Rasmussen was trimming his hedge at his home north of Copenhagen when the bees suddenly attacked him.
Five or six insects stung him in the face and on the throat prompting his face and neck to swell, the Ekstra Bladet daily newspaper said.
His bodyguards immediately called an ambulance, according to the tabloid.
Paramedics gave him adrenaline injected intramuscularly to reduce the swelling.
Later, Fogh Rasmussen left for his summer cottage in southern France with his family.
Michael Ulvemann, the prime minister’s press secretary, confirmed that Fogh Rasmussen had received medical treatment, but declined to comment further on the report.
“He underwent medical treatment just before leaving for France,” Ulvemann said. He said the prime minister was not allergic to bee stings.
