Irish salmon farmers have welcomed the introduction of new EU safeguard measures, which will place an annual quota on imports.
Under the safeguard measure once the quota from countries outside the EU is exceeded a duty of 18% will be levied.
The Irish Salmon Growers Association has said this is excellent news for remote coastal regions and the salmon farming industry in general.
