A powerful earthquake measuring around six on the Richter scale shook central Turkey earlier today.
The quake happened in the town of Bolvadin in Afyon province, but was felt as far away as Istanbul, 300 miles away.
An aftershock followed the quake five minutes later. Residents in the province rushed into the streets in panic but there are no reports of damage or injuries.
The majority of Turkey lies on the North Anatolian fault and earthquakes frequently jolt the country.
Ruptures in the fault caused two large quakes in western Turkey in 1999 killing 18,000 people.
