The Garda Ombudsman is investigating the circumstances surrounding a shooting incident in Co Wexford yesterday.

The Garda Ombudsman is investigating the circumstances surrounding a shooting incident in Co Wexford yesterday.

A man in his forties, who is married with children, is in a critical condition in Dublin's Beaumont Hospital after shooting himself in the head during a stand-off with armed Gardaí.

The incident happened at his house near Inch, which had been surrounded by gardaí.

Armed officers were dispatched to the scene after a shot was apparently fired in the air during an argument between the man and a local auctioneer.
