ATM disruption likely as security staff plan one-day strike

ATM services in the Dublin area are expected to be disrupted later this month due to a planned one-day stoppage by security staff.

The workers are planning to engage in the action on April 15 to protest at the threat to their safety from criminal gangs.

The protest follows a number of high-profile raids on security vans in Dublin in recent weeks, including one that Justice Minister Michael McDowell has blamed on the van driver.

However, SIPTU has argued that, while security firms are making efforts to deal with the problem, the Government had to provide extra resources to help the Gardaí crack down on criminal activity.
