Britney Spears has filed for divorce from rapper Kevin Federline citing irreconcilable differences, a court spokeswoman said tonight.

Britney Spears has filed for divorce from rapper Kevin Federline citing irreconcilable differences, a court spokeswoman said tonight.

The couple had been married for two years and Spears, 24, gave birth to their second son just two months ago.

Papers filed in Los Angeles Superior Court were obtained by showbiz news website TMZ.com.

The news broke just a day after Spears flaunted her slimmed-down post-baby figure and a sleek bobbed haircut in a surprise appearance on David Letterman's TV show.

The court papers show that Spears wants both legal and physical custody of the couple’s children, Sean Preston, one and two-month-old Jayden James, with Federline getting visitation rights.

He has two other children from a previous relationship.
