Rangers midfielder Alex Rae has described fit-again Brahim Hemdani as a potential key figure in tomorrow night’s Champions League match against Artmedia Bratislava.
The former Marseille skipper made his competitive debut for Rangers against Dundee United in Sunday’s Bank of Scotland Premier League draw at Tannadice, having spent three months out with a groin injury after signing from the French side.
Rae has been sufficiently impressed by the 27-year-old midfielder to suggest Hemdani could help Rangers further their Champions League ambitions against the Slovakian minnows at Ibrox.
Rae, who will miss the game with a broken toe sustained in a training ground incident with team-mate Bob Malcolm a month ago, told The Daily Record: “I’ve only seen Brahim from a distance because I haven’t been training recently but I saw him a couple of times in pre-season friendlies and he is a very intelligent player.
“He is easy on the eye – very good to watch and he has a lot of experience.
“The fact that he has so much European experience with Marseille and a proven pedigree will be a huge advantage to Rangers.
“He captained Marseille and you don’t get that position without being a very good player.
“Also, he must have leadership qualities to have been given the armband.
“We’ve got him back at a good time with so many big games coming up and hopefully he can be an influence against Artmedia.”
