Campaigners for undocumented Irish immigrants will have their eyes on the White House later, where the US president is to announce reforms on immigration.
Barack Obama is due to made an address to the nation at 8pm local time (1am Irish time).
He will then travel to a high school Las Vegas to outline the plans in detail.
In a message posted to Facebook, he said: "Everyone agrees our immigration system is broken. Unfortunately Washington has allowed the problem to fester for too long.
"I'm going to be laying out are the things that I can do with my lawful authority as President to make the system work better, even as I continue to work with Congress and encourage them to get a bi-partisan, comprehensive bill that can solve the entire problem."
