Gardaí have arrested five people in Co Cork as part of Operation Nascar which centres around fraudulent motor insurance claims.

Gardaí have arrested five people in Co Cork as part of Operation Nascar which centres around fraudulent motor insurance claims.

The arrests were made during an operation in Cork involving members of the Organised Crime Unit and Fraud Investigation Unit attached to Anglsea Street Garda station along with local detectives.

Three men and two women, ranging in age from their twenties to their forties, are being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at a number of garda stations.

Today's arrests bring to 17 the number of people detained as part of this ongoing investigation.
