Fianna Fail look for €17,000 back from Dublin councillor

Fianna Fail has confirmed that it is trying to recoup thousands of euro from a councillor who has resigned from the party.

The party is reportedly looking to get €17,000 back from councillor David McGuinness, who quit yesterday.

McGuiness says he spent the money on leaflets and other promotional material and claims that there is no way that he can return it.

But the party's Dublin spokesman, Darragh O'Brien, says the party is right to ask for its money back.

"The funding that David was given over the last couple of years was effectively to develop the party within the Dublin West area and I think the party is right to look at avenues of securing the return of that that funding," said O'Brien.

"That money was not for David McGuinness. It was to develop the organisation with Dublin West," said O'Brien.
