Update: Second Status Orange rainfall warning means 'more flooding' in Kerry

Update: 10am Met Eireann has issued another Status Orange rainfall warning for Co. Kerry.

The western parts of counties Galway, Mayo, Clare and Cork have also been issued with a Status Yellow rainfall warning.

Kerry has already had torrential rain over the past 36 hours, and the forecaster has said there will be more heavy rain there until this afternoon.

They said it will lead to more flooding in the county with another 30mm to 40mm of rain likely in the area.

They expect coastal and mountainous areas to get the most rain.

Status Yellow rainfall warning in the four other counties will mean between 30mm and 50 mm of rain today, with up to 70mm possible in mountainous areas.

Earlier: Drivers in parts of Connacht and west Munster, are being warned of dangerous conditions, as warnings for heavy rain are in effect.

An orange warning is in place in Co. Kerry, where up to 100mm of rain is possible in mountainous areas, while 70mm is expected in Galway, Mayo, Clare and Cork.

The Road Safety Authority is urging drivers to take extreme care.

Forecaster with Met Éireann Liz Walsh, says Co. Kerry has already experienced some heavy downpours.

She said: "It should ease off, you should see the rain getting lighter and patchier in those areas. Basically the front has rained out all it can and there's nothing left in it.

"So by evening it should be just light and patchy with bits of drizzle, but there is a high probability of flooding in some areas especially in parts of Kerry and some parts of West Cork as well."
