Blues potential excites Williams

Christian Williams believes I’msingingtheblues has been overlooked in the betting for the Irish Independent Arkle Trophy.

The Welshman has partnered the Paul Nicholls-trained seven-year-old to victory in his last two races, the latest in a £100,000 (€111,474) handicap at Doncaster.

The John Hales-owned chaser can still be backed at 9-1 for the second race of the Cheltenham Festival.

“He’s very small but he’s very tough, he’s like a little terrier,” said Williams.

“He gave Calgary Bay 6lb and beat him handily enough at Doncaster, so that’s good form.

“He then came out and won a £100,000 (€111,474) race and there aren’t even handicaps at Cheltenham that are worth that.

“The second horse (Doctor David) that day came to beat him but my horse was just relentless and galloped all the way to the line, I struggled to pull him up.

“The second horse finished very tired and literally stopped to a trot after the line, which showed how tired he was.

“He was very disappointing at Sandown next time but that wouldn’t have been his running, he’s a far better horse than that so I think the form of my horse is very solid.

“The pace they went that day was like what they’ll go in an Arkle so it should stand him in good stead when he goes to Cheltenham.

“On official ratings, my horse is the highest in the race,” he told At The Races.
