A radical Kenyan Muslim cleric who was on US and UN sanction lists for allegedly supporting Somalia's al-Qaida-linked Shebab militants, has been shot dead.
Witnesses said Aboud Rogo Mohammed was travelling in the Kenyan port city of Mombasa when his car was riddled with bullets.
Thousands of angry protestors immediately blocked off streets around the mosque where he preached, setting fire to vehicles and chanting slogans in his support.
Others reported running battles with the police.
