Shearer awaits scan results

Newcastle captain Alan Shearer is awaiting the results of a scan on his troublesome thigh as he fights to return to action against former club Blackburn.

Newcastle captain Alan Shearer is awaiting the results of a scan on his troublesome thigh as he fights to return to action against former club Blackburn.

The Magpies head for Ewood Park on Boxing Day having collected just five points from their last eight Barclays Premiership games.

Shearer has missed the last five of those fixtures with his injury, which he suffered in training ahead of the trip to Crystal Palace on November 20, the last league game Graeme Souness’ side won.

He has undergone another scan on the muscle in a bid to get to the bottom of the problem and, although he is hopeful of returning soon, Sunday may yet come around too quickly.

“I have had another scan and I am just waiting for the result,” said Shearer. “I do not know when I will be back.”
