Dublin launches three-day new year's countdown

A three-day new year's festival gets underway in the capital today.

NYF Dublin will be launched by Tourism Minister Paschal Donohoe with a Luminosity light spectacle, using the city architecture as a backdrop.

This will see buildings and areas such as Dublin Castle, Wolfe Tone Square and Trinity College lit up - with 3D projections.

They will be lit from 5pm to midnight over three days from today until January 1, 2015.

The organisers promise a host of family friendly and free events - along with some big name ticketed events.

These include a sold out countdown concert on New Year's Eve with Kodaline as the main act.
