The executive management committee of Tallaght Hospital met last night to discuss the X-ray scandal at the facility.
It comes amid claims that the board commissioned an independent report last year to look at its management structure, because they themselves were concerned about how the hospital was being run.
Management at the hospital has been under mounting pressure since it emerged that 58,000 X-rays were not examined by a consultant radiologist over a five-year period.
It has since been revealed that thousands of GP referral letters have also gone unopened at times, leading to major delays in patients being seen.
Today, the Irish Times reports that the board had concerns itself about how the hospital was being run, and commissioned an independent report to look into it.
The paper quotes a source as saying that report was presented late last year and recommended cutting the number of board members as well as reducing the senior management team.
There is now said to be consensus amongst board members at Tallaght that change is needed, and a full board meeting is expected to be called shortly.
