Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi will visit Russia next week at President Vladimir Putin’s invitation, the Kremlin announced today.

Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi will visit Russia next week at President Vladimir Putin’s invitation, the Kremlin announced today.

Berlusconi will travel to the two-day working visit on August 28, the Kremlin said in a statement posted on its website. No further information about the visit was released.

Putin and Berlusconi have cultivated close personal ties and the Italian leader is one of the Russian president’s most valued European partners.

Putin’s daughters have stayed with Berlusconi’s family at their Sardinian villa.
