Debt fears discouraging students - USI

The Union of Students in Ireland has claimed that fear of getting into debt is discouraging many students from going to college.

The Union of Students in Ireland has claimed that fear of getting into debt is discouraging many students from going to college.

The USI said people from low-income backgrounds are particularly affected. It also said the fear of debt can affect a student's choice of college and choice of course.

USI Education Officer Gareth Keogh said international experience shows student debt can have longer term consequences.
