Oscar-winner Judi Dench is teaming up with American action star Vin Diesel for a new movie.
The 68-year-old British actress is in final negotiations to star opposite Diesel in Universal Pictures’ film Chronicles of Riddick the sequel to the 2000 film Pitch Black, according to today’s Hollywood Reporter.
Pitch Black starred Diesel as an intergalactic prisoner named Richard Riddick who has the ability to see in the dark.
In the sequel, Riddick is now a hunted man who finds himself in the middle of two opposing forces in a major crusade.
Dench will play Aereon, an ambassador from the Elemental race, an ethereal being who helps Riddick unearth his origins.
Meanwhile, Colm Feore will play the lead villain – Lord Marshal, a warrior priest who is the leader of a sect that is waging the 10th and perhaps final crusade 500 years in the future.
The film is being made by writer-director David Twohy and production begins in Vancouver in April.
Twohy told the trade newspaper: “Both Judi and Colm are formidable talents, both classically trained, and I look forward to bringing these two bright stars into our dark, new universe.”
