The Irish are leading consumers of holidays online, according to a new survey.

The TNS MRBI global report shows that out of 40 countries surveyed, Irish people have led the way in consumer shopping online.

The report states that 46% of Irish adults have used the internet in the last four weeks. From these people, 19% have gone on to shop online. Purchases are numerous including 15% of people who have bought books and 14% of shoppers who have purchased CDs.

However, the most surprising figure was linked to consumers of online travel. 28% of shoppers had purchased holidays or leisure pursuits on the internet.
