The country's dental hospitals are today urging people who notice lumps in their mouths for more than a fortnight to have them checked.

Around 400 new cases of head and neck cancer are detected in Ireland every year, while three people will die from it every week.

Mouth, head and neck cancer is the sixth most common form of the disease, yet people are relatively uninformed about them.
