The GAA has today issued a statement condemning the alleged death threats received by Australian International Rules series captain James Hird.

Hird claimed he had received death threats on the answering machine of his hotel room telephone before last Sunday's first test.

The GAA said today that this was the first they had heard of the incident and that no AFL official had been aware of it either.

The Association added that the alleged incidents were the actions of a 'mindless moron' and were abhorrent.

The matter has been reported to the Gardaí.
