Bolton defender Gudni Bergsson has agreed a new one-year deal at the Reebok Stadium.
The Icelandic central defender had considered hanging up his boots but believes he is capable of giving Bolton one last season.
The 37-year-old said: “I am absolutely delighted to be playing with the Wanderers for another season in the Premiership.
“It was a difficult decision to make. My sole objective was to understand my family’s thoughts in the matter. Once they were happy for me to continue there was no problem.
“I feel that physically and mentally I have another season left in me and I still want to play my part in Bolton’s aspirations in the Premiership.”
Bolton boss Sam Allardyce believes Bergsson can still play an important part in his squad.
He said: “Gudni has been instrumental in the club’s performances over the past seven-and-a-half seasons.
“To have him for another campaign is fantastic news. He still has a lot to offer us and if he can play the way he did last season, I will be more than happy.”
