Woman convicted of murdering three sons

A California jury has convicted a woman of first-degree murder for shooting dead three of her four young sons.

A California jury has convicted a woman of first-degree murder for shooting dead three of her four young sons.

Prosecutors had said Socorro Caro, 44, was angry after a fight with her husband and methodically shot the boys, aged 11, eight and five, with a handgun while they slept at their million-dollar Santa Rosa Valley home on November 22, 1999. She then shot herself in the head but survived.

Jurors, who deliberated for five days before reaching the verdict, are to return to the Ventura court tomorrow to determine if Caro was sane when the murders were committed - which could take about a week. If she is found sane, the jury will then decide whether to recommend the death penalty.
