Eamon Dunphy is to meet RTE’s head of sport today to discuss his suspension from the station's World Cup coverage.

He had been out drinking the night before a television appearance and was unable to finish providing analysis during a live match programme.

Writing in today's Star newspaper, Dunphy said: "While I fully accept I was in the wrong, I am furious at the way RTE went public on my suspension."

He vowed never to cover a World Cup match for the station again.
