Plans by the HSE to supply medicines to patients on the Community Drugs Scheme have come under fire after pharmacists highlighted 'inaccuracies' in its list of participating pharmacies published in daily newspapers this morning.
The Irish Pharmacy Union in a statement said patients' anxiety has been increased by the "misinformation" contained in the list, published days before the August 1 deadline for pharmacists to withdraw from state drugs schemes following the Government's decision to cut fees and payments.
"If the HSE cannot get a list of pharmacies right how can they dispense medicines safely to people all over the country?" said Liz Hoctor, president of the Irish Pharmacy Union.
The unions said the newspaper advertisement named dozens of pharmacies countrywide which should not be on the list.
It said it would publish on its website a list of over 1,100 pharmacies who have indicated that they will not be participating in community drug schemes.
