Education Minister Ruairi Quinn has said the Cabinet will make a decision on any re-introduction of college fees based on the financial realities of the country.

Education Minister Ruairi Quinn has said the Cabinet will make a decision on any re-introduction of college fees based on the financial realities of the country.

Ruairi Quinn said it was his long-held personal belief that fees should not be brought back.

The Union of Students says Minister Quinn must live up to his pre-election promises on fees.

He says he is awaiting advice from the Higher Education Authority before making any decisions.

"I want to stress that no decision of any kind (has been made), because I haven’t brought any proposals to government yet because the HEA...have yet to come to me," he said.
