There's good news today from the world-famous weather-reading groundhog Punxsutawney Phil.

There's good news today from the world-famous weather-reading groundhog Punxsutawney Phil.

The rodent - made famous by the eponymous film star Bill Murray - predicted spring is on its way after he emerged from his home at Gobbler's Knob in Pennsylvania this morning.

Many in the US will be especially pleased.

Thirty states - stretching 2,000 miles from Texas to Maine - have been hit by one of the largest winter storms since the 1950s.
