Former Limerick city councillor Michael Kelly has reportedly been shot in Limerick.

Former Limerick city councillor Michael Kelly has reportedly been shot in Limerick.

Gardaí at the city's Roxboro garda station would not confirm the identity of the shooting incident victim.

There are reports, however, that Michael Kelly was shot in the head and is in a critical condition in Limerick regional hospital.

The shooting happened inside a house at 8.30am in the Southill area of the city, gardaí confirmed. They could not confirm how many assailants were involved in the attack.

The scene has been preserved for technical examination.

Mr Kelly was also shot in the stomach at his home in Ballyneety two years ago and had recently served a prison sentence for tax and social welfare fraud.
