Two men were recovering in Northern Ireland last night after being shot by a gang in a paramilitary-style attack in Newtownabbey.

The victims were walking along Bridge Road in Monkstown at around 7.50pm when a silver transit van containing five men pulled up beside them.

They were dragged into the van which headed to a grass area at Old Irish Highway.

The men were both shot once in the calf.

Meanwhile detectives in Coleraine were investigating a shooting incident in Harpur’s Hill.

Several shots were fired at a downstairs flat and an upstairs flat on the housing estate shortly before 9pm but no-one was injured.

Detectives appealed to anyone with information to help their investigation.
