Ramirez turns in a mesmerising performance as Carlos the Jackal who in 1975 kidnapped oil ministers attending a meeting in Austria.
Originally intended to be a lengthy three-part TV series, the truncated film does its best - and largely succeeds - not to lose the full impact of the story and Ramirez manages to bring his character to
life in a surprisingly sympathetic manner.
