Shefflin and Murphy win monthly All-Stars
Record All-Ireland SHC winner Henry Shefflin from Kilkenny and Donegal's All-Ireland SFC winning captain Michael Murphy have been chosen as the GAA GPA All-Stars Players of the Month for September.
Shefflin was the driving force behind Kilkenny's memorable comeback in the drawn final against Galway, dragging his team back from the brink of defeat in a courageous display of skill, leadership and sheer determination.
These traits were seen once again in the replay as the Ballyhale Shamrocks clubman again led from the front in a high quality display, as he claimed an unprecedented ninth All-Ireland winners' medal.
Murphy, meanwhile, earned the approval of the inter-county players' body for his performance in the All-Ireland final against Mayo.
The young forward captained his Donegal side to victory over the Connacht champions and led by example in a brilliant all-round display.
His performance was capped by one of the all-time great All-Ireland final goals as he blasted past Mayo's David Clarke inside five minutes.
Commenting on the announcement, GAA President Liam O'Neill said: "Both Henry and Michael served up performances to savour with Kilkenny and Donegal respectively, playing crucial roles in those counties' performances against Galway and Mayo.
