Woman killed and another wounded in Cork

A murder inquiry is underway in Cork city today after a woman was stabbed to death in her home.

A murder inquiry is underway in Cork city today after a woman was stabbed to death in her home.

A man is being questioned after the body of a 20-year-old woman was found at her home in Rochestown Road in the city.

The woman's 19-year-old flatmate sustained stab wounds but alerted the Gardai on her mobile phone.

The young woman is a student, and her parents are now returning from abroad.

A 20-year-old man is being questioned by officers at Togher Garda Station.

He is believed to be from the area.

The scene is sealed off for technical examination and State Pathologist Dr John Harbison will carry out a post mortem later today.
