A man has been killed in a car crash in Co Cavan.

A man has been killed in a car crash in Co Cavan.

The car collided with a tree on the Ballinagh to Crossdoney Rd (R154) at around 10.16pm last night.

The 31-year-old male driver was seriously injured and taken to Cavan General Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

A post mortem is due to take place later today.

There was no one else in the car at the time of the collision.

The road in Kildallagh, Ballinagh, remains closed for a forensic examination and diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the collision to contact them in Cavan on 049 4368800, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
