WATCH: Jeremy Clarkson takes swipe at BBC in Amazon advert

Former Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson has taken a swipe at the BBC in a new advertisement for Amazon.

The 55-year-old presenter, one of the new signings for the internet streaming service, could not resist a couple of digs at his former employer as he fronted a television campaign for Amazon’s on-demand video device the Fire TV stick.

The 30-second clip opens with Clarkson on a Segway inside a Surrey country house, saying: “Back in the spring, as you probably remember, I suddenly became unbusy,” referring to when he was sacked by the BBC following a “fracas” with a Top Gear producer.

His second jibe at the corporation came as he showed off the channels available on the Fire TV stick – and quickly scrolled through the BBC iPlayer service.

“Everything you could possibly want, Demand 5, Netflix, that,” he said as he flicked on to the BBC offering.

The advert will be shown on ITV during the Rugby World Cup final broadcast on Saturday.

Clarkson and his former Top Gear co-presenters Richard Hammond and James May signed a deal for a motoring show with Amazon in July.

The trio, who will be joined by former Top Gear executive producer Andy Wilman on the new show, have signed up for three series, with the first due to be broadcast in 2016.

Filming on the programme has already started, with Clarkson tweeting a photo of the presenters, their crew, three cars and two trucks on October 7.

He wrote: “With a skeleton crew, filming for Amazon Prime’s new motoring programme has begun.”
