Eight people were killed when a suicide bomber attacked a Shiite mosque north of Baghdad, Iraqi police and hospital officials said tonight.

Eight people were killed when a suicide bomber attacked a Shiite mosque north of Baghdad, Iraqi police and hospital officials said tonight.

Eighteen other people were injured in the attack in the city of Balad Ruz, 45 miles (70km) north the capital.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but Sunni militants have often targeted Shiite mosques as a way to incite sectarian violence.
