Charities are warning it could take ten years before rebuilding is completed in the areas devastated by the Asian tsunami.

It is six months today since the disaster occurred, when an estimated 300,000 people were killed.

Speaking from Banda Aceh in Indonisia, one of the worst hit areas, Trócaire's Orla Fagan said: “There has been a lot of criticism, I suppose of the Indonesian government in that things are slow. There is no doubt about it and everybody is in agreement.

“There has been a lot of frustration from the Non-Government Organisations, like Trócaire, in that they can’t get things moving along because there’s all sorts of issues, like land issues, that have yet to be sorted out.”
