Dublin City University (DCU) - the hosts of this season's Sigerson Cup finals weekend - will boast a star-studded line-up for the third-level football competiton.

The Glasnevin-based college have secured the services of a trio of impressive inter-county forwards - Westmeath's Dessie Dolan, Laois sharpshooter Ross Munnelly and Mayo man Conor Mortimer - for the 2006 season.

Both Dolan, an All-Star with the Lake county in 2004, and Munnelly, who scored 1-24 in last summer's All-Ireland championship, are teachers and travelled to Australia with the Ireland International Rules panel last month.

They join an already considerable wealth of talent at DCU, including Dublin’s Paul Casey, Stephen Cluxton and Bryan Cullen, Meath full-back Kevin Reilly, Cavan forward Seanie Johnston, Wexford midfielder Diarmuid Kinsella and the Monaghan pair Vincent Corry and Eoin Lennon.

Tuning up for the Sigerson Cup begins in January with the O'Byrne Cup, for which Munnelly will be lining out for DCU and not for his own county Laois, the holders.

DCU coach Niall Moyna recently refuted claims that his star players are not actually studying at the college and are being paid to play.

“Unless a student is coming here for a top level education, we are not interested. Education has to be their primary interest.

“This can be shown by the graduation rate of our footballers which is almost 100%," insisted Moyna.
