Oscar-winning actor Jon Voight said today that the ring he kept from his role playing the late Pope John Paul II helps him be a better person.
"I feel him, I think: ‘Wait a minute Jon, if you are wearing this ring you’d better think a little better'," Voight told a news conference today, as the film Pope John Paul II opened in cinemas across Poland, the late Pope’s homeland.
Voight said the flat, gold-coloured ring with a figure of St. Peter on “makes me better.”
He was given the ring after starring in the film.
“So I am very grateful to the ring, and I think I will probably wear it to the rest of my life,” he said.
Voight and the film team, including Director John Kent Harrison, were in Poland for the film’s premiere yesterday in the southern city of Krakow.
President Lech Kaczynski, Prime Minister Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz and Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz, the late Pope’s personal secretary, also attended the premiere.
Today, the film team travelled to Warsaw.
