Northern Ireland goalkeeper Roy Carroll has been released by Manchester United as part of a player clearout at Old Trafford.

Carroll was first choice goalkeeper for United at the end of the season and played in the FA Cup Final despite his stalling on a new contract at the club.

Also leaving United are another goalkeeper, Ricardo, along with six young professionals: Ramon Callistte, Ben Collett, Daniel Nardiello, David Poole, Lee Lawrence and Paul Tierney.

The clearout means Tim Howard is the only senior goalkeeper at United – the American agreed a new deal last week.
