Six small bombs went off around Corsica in an apparently co-ordinated effort on the French Mediterranean island where separatists have for decades used bombings to make their voices heard. No injuries were reported.
A small bomb that failed to explode was placed in front of a school administration building in the capital city of Ajaccio, in southern Corsica.
Three explosions late yesterday targeted government buildings, a tax office in Ajaccio, the French electric company in Porto-Vecchio on the southern tip of the island and a post office in the central city of Corte.
Three private summer homes also were hit. There were no immediate claims of responsibility for the attacks, but separatists have long used overnight bombings in their fight for more autonomy.
