Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko headed to Britain today to discuss his ex-Soviet republic’ prospects for joining the European Union with Prime Minister Tony Blair and to pick up a prestigious award from the Queen.
Yushchenko was declared the winner of the Chatham House prize for ensuring that last year’s momentous political chanes in Ukraine during the Orange Revolution didn’t trigger conflict within Europe.
Yushchenko was also expected to hold talks with Blair about the planned EU-Ukraine summit in the Ukrainian capital in December.
Britain currently holds the rotating EU presidency, and Ukraine is eager to join the EU.
