There were 616,100 overseas trips to Ireland in March 2005 compared with 545,900 in the same month last year, an increase of 13%, the CSO revealed today.
In the year to date to the end of March 2005 there were 1,796,500 overseas trips to Ireland, an increase of 6% on the figure of 1,699,600 for the first three months of 2004.
The number of trips to ireland by residents of Britain in March 2005 grew by 6% when compared with the same month in 2004.
The number of trips to Ireland by residents of other European countries in March was 54% above the corresponding 2004 figure.
The number of visits by residents of North America in March decreased by10% when compared with March 2004.
There were 26,000 trips to Ireland by residents of other areas in March, an increase of 100 on the same month in 2004.
The figure of 522,000 for overseas trips by Irish residents in March 2005 represents an increase of 25% on the figure of 417,100 for March 2004.
