A 13-year-old boy who suffers from cerebral palsy and swings his golf club with one arm has scored a hole in one, his mother said today.
John Smith, from Suffolk, England was overjoyed after he hit the jackpot on the eighth hole at the Fynn Valley Golf Club near his home town.
His mother, Carol, had been going round the nine-hole course with him on Tuesday evening and thought he had overshot the 120-yard par three hole.
She said: “I saw him hit it, then we couldn’t see the ball and were looking beyond the green when some people in front of us said it had gone into the hole.
“There it was – we couldn’t believe it. It’s really something for John – his dad has never managed to do this.”
Mrs Smith said the feat should be an inspiration to others.
She said: “He’s showed that you can do well, even if you only use one arm - it’s something to be really proud of.”
John plays golf with his 10-year-old brother, Michael, and his father, Graham.
The family has been visiting the club two or three times a week during the summer and when he is not hitting golf balls himself, John likes to watch sport on television.
He said: “My favourite player is Tiger Woods. I’d love to play like him.”
